A thousand years ago Kingswood was part of the royal hunting estate. By 1800 it has become lawless and dangerous thanks to the notorious Cock Road Gang. Bristol philanthropist and Quaker, Robert Charlton, was determined to improve the conditions of local people. In the early 1830s he set up a pin factory just off Two Mile Hill in what would become Charlton Road.The factory was at the rear of Filwood House the splendid home of Mr Charlton’s business partner, Charles Lambert.
