Local Information About Cefn Hengoed

Cefn Hengoed – The Local Area

If you already know Cefn Hengoed you won’t need convincing that it’s a great place to call home. Embracing its past while looking to the future makes it an optimistic community. For example, the magnificent 16-arch Hengoed Viaduct may have seen its last train roll by, but it’s now part of the Celtic Trail. And the old colliery has been transformed into the Penallta Community Park.

Set on the west side of the Rhymney Valley, the village has miles of beautiful open countryside on its doorstep. But that doesn’t mean you have to compromise on the benefits of 21st century living. Within a couple of miles you have a selection of schools, supermarkets, doctors, leisure centres, restaurants and pubs.

You’re also just minutes from the A469 to take you down to Caerphilly, the M4, and Cardiff - only 15 miles away. If you don’t fancy driving there are buses and trains so you can relax and enjoy the journey.

Cefn Hengoed is close to two primary schools (Derwendeg and Hengoed) and a range of secondary schools, including the popular Lewis Girls' Comprehensive.

Cefn Hengoed boasts several doctors surgeries within 3 miles of the village. The nearest hospital is at Ystrad Mynach, just over a mile away.

‘We are really pleased with the efficient and professional way in which everything went. It is often said that moving house is the most stressful thing you will ever do, but on this occasion, that simply wasn't true. A huge thank you to all your team.’
